ACT Writers Centre

The ACT Writers Centre promotes writing-based culture and supports the rights and interests of writers throughout the ACT and region. The Centre also acts as an information and liaison centre for writers, publishers, and educational institutions. Members have access to the resource library, meeting room, and office equipment. The Centre publishes a monthly magazine with regional and national information on literary events and opportunities.

Open-access arts festival, featuring performers and groups from all artistic mediums. The second-largest fringe festival in the world. Festival is open access, so any artists who want to participate, can. Events range from comedy, theatre, music, burlesque, poetry readings, dance, and more.

Alex Adsett Publishing Services was established by Alex Adsett in 2008. Originally offering consultancy services to publishers and authors with a focus on commercial publishing contracts, it soon expanded to also offer traditional literary agent representation to select authors. Alex Adsett Publishing Services is a full service literary agency representing fiction and narrative non-fiction, for adults, YA and children, with a focus on SFF, crime & romance.

The Australian Copyright Council is an independent, non-profit organisation. Founded in 1968, we represent the peak bodies for professional artists and content creators working in Australia’s creative industries and Australia’s major copyright collecting societies. They are advocates for the contribution of creators to Australia’s culture and economy; the importance of copyright for the common good. The Australian Copyright Council work to promote understanding of copyright law and its application, lobby for appropriate law reform and foster collaboration between content creators and consumers.

The Australian Copyright Council (ACC) is an independent non-profit organisation that provides information, advice and training about copyright in Australia. The ACC represent the peak bodies for professional artists and content creators working in Australia’s creative industries and Australia’s major copyright collecting societies. ACC also produces publications, does research, and makes submissions on copyright policy issues.

The ACWA is dedicated to promoting greater recognition for crime, thriller and mystery writing in Australia and to protect the general professional interests of all creators of crime and mystery works. The ACWA is not just for professionals, but aims to provide something for everyone who is devoted to the crime genre. The ACWA also organises the annual Ned Kelly Awards, and celebrates new and up-and-coming talent with the Best First Fiction award and excellence in true crime writing with the True Crime Ned Kelly award.

Crime

Formed to provide a public presence and point of contact for literary agents and their staff. Members of the association are required to adhere to the principles outlined in the code of practice.

The ASA promotes and protects the professional interests of Australian literary creators, setting minimum recommended rates of pay for authors and illustrators, providing information about minimum recommended terms for contracts for writers and illustrators and campaigning for author and illustrator rights to government and industry. The ASA also provides a contract assessment service, individual advice for members, mentorships, professional development events and awards.

The Australian Writers’ Centre opened in 2005 with just 2 courses. Today it boasts almost 30 courses that are available both face-to-face in Sydney or Melbourne, as well as online. Courses are presented by some of Australia’s most successful authors, journalists and business communication experts.

Authors’ Agent, The

The Authors' Agent is an 'authors come first' agency, with a focus on building long-term writing careers for its clients. Under Brian Cook's stewardship, the strategic plan for the agency has two clear objectives. To continue to provide second-to-none personal service to its clients, while steadily growing the business through seeking out "unique, exciting, well-connected, market-savvy" writers who will be a good fit with the agency's style and ethos. Interested in general fiction and non-fiction, both adult and children's. Not academic, scientific, religious or poetry.

Award Winning Australian Writing is an annual book published by Melbourne Books compiling the best and most compelling of this year's Australian writing. Accepting stories and poems that have won first place in an Australian short story or poetry competition held between 1 June of the previous year and 31 May of the current year. Ideally stories should be less than 3000 words, hard limit of 5000.

Bath Novel Award

The Bath Novel Award is an annual £2,000 prize for unpublished and indie novelists writing for adults or young adults. The award is open to writers of any nationality, genre and perspective and has a strong track record in helping emerging writers to further their writing careers.

Bendigo Writers Festival aims to provide a forum to meet and talk about books and writing, and, mostly, to enjoy the conviviality of a festival set in View Street, Bendigo.

Betty Trask left a bequest to the Society of Authors in 1983 to fund prizes for first novels written by authors under the age of 35 in a traditional or romantic, but not experimental, style.
