ACT Writers Centre

The ACT Writers Centre promotes writing-based culture and supports the rights and interests of writers throughout the ACT and region. The Centre also acts as an information and liaison centre for writers, publishers, and educational institutions. Members have access to the resource library, meeting room, and office equipment. The Centre publishes a monthly magazine with regional and national information on literary events and opportunities.

Open-access arts festival, featuring performers and groups from all artistic mediums. The second-largest fringe festival in the world. Festival is open access, so any artists who want to participate, can. Events range from comedy, theatre, music, burlesque, poetry readings, dance, and more.

The Australian Copyright Council is an independent, non-profit organisation. Founded in 1968, we represent the peak bodies for professional artists and content creators working in Australia’s creative industries and Australia’s major copyright collecting societies. They are advocates for the contribution of creators to Australia’s culture and economy; the importance of copyright for the common good. The Australian Copyright Council work to promote understanding of copyright law and its application, lobby for appropriate law reform and foster collaboration between content creators and consumers.

The Australian Copyright Council (ACC) is an independent non-profit organisation that provides information, advice and training about copyright in Australia. The ACC represent the peak bodies for professional artists and content creators working in Australia’s creative industries and Australia’s major copyright collecting societies. ACC also produces publications, does research, and makes submissions on copyright policy issues.

Formed to provide a public presence and point of contact for literary agents and their staff. Members of the association are required to adhere to the principles outlined in the code of practice.

The ASA promotes and protects the professional interests of Australian literary creators, setting minimum recommended rates of pay for authors and illustrators, providing information about minimum recommended terms for contracts for writers and illustrators and campaigning for author and illustrator rights to government and industry. The ASA also provides a contract assessment service, individual advice for members, mentorships, professional development events and awards.

The Writing and Society Research Centre's members include critics, theorists and philosophers, poets, novelists, experimental writers, translators, editors, performers and composers. The Centre's core interest is in literature as a form of knowledge, and as an agent for the examination of social and cultural values. We provide a rigorous and active context for our researchers, honours and higher degree candidates.

Aims to promote public awareness of the value of books and reading for young people and to encourage appreciation of New Zealand children's literature. Activities include an annual seminar, young writers' workshops, a short story competition for school age children and school visits by writers and illustrators.

Curtin University

Curtin University was one of the first universities in Australia to set up a Creative Writing program. Creative Writing graduates include Tim Winton, Simone Lazaroo and Deborah Robertson. The Professional Writing major was introduced in 2000 and has already developed an excellent reputation in the corporate and government sector, where many graduates are employed in corporate communications, speech writing, journalism and as freelancers. CYA Conference

This conference provides professional development for new and established writers and illustrators of Children’s and Young Adult literature. Masterclasses and workshops will be conducted by international and Australian authors and illustrators and industry professionals. Manuscript assessments/pitches will be held by Australian Editors and an agent will be onsite.

Editors Queensland

Association of publishing professionals, including editors, designers, illustrators, typesetters, proofreaders, desktop publishers and publishing consultants dedicated to excellence in publishing in Queensland. It has around 270 members. All welcome to meetings on the first Wednesday of the month. Seminars and workshops are held regularly. A Directory of Editorial Services is available on the website.

The Fellowship of Australian Writers has branches in every state. They aim to encourage writing of every genre and act as a forum for the reading aloud of members' work. Exercises, discussions and workshops are offered. Hosts the Shoalhaven Literary Award: an annual award alternating years for poetry and prose.
