WHAT IS GENRECON?

A CONVENTION FOR GENRE WRITERS

GenreCon is the preeminent Australian writing convention for writers of genre fiction – crime, romance, science fiction, fantasy, and horror. It’s three days of workshops, panel discussions, networking events, and pitching sessions designed to support and educate Australian genre writers at all levels.

WHEN IS GENRECON?

GenreCon is a biennial event, held over a long weekend toward the end of every second year. The last GenreCon was held at the State Library of Queensland in November 2017.

WHO RUNS GENRECON?

GenreCon is an Australia-wide initiative headed by the Queensland Writers Centre. It is open to writers across Australia and New Zealand.

LEARN FROM THE PROS

Over the three day GenreCon weekend, you’ll have the chance to attend panels, talks and workshops with some of the leading names in Australian and international genre fiction. Meet and learn from a slew of best-selling and award-winning writers, editors, and agents involved in every genre.

NETWORK WITH OTHER WRITERS

GenreCon is designed to give attendees the chance to meet and make real connections with other writers, editors, and established professionals. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to meet and mingle with peers and professionals over the GenreCon weekend.

GET YOUR WORK NOTICED

If you have a completed manuscript burning a hole in your desk drawer, GenreCon can assist – our one-on-one pitching sessions with publishers and agents give new and emerging writers the opportunity to get their work in front of industry professionals actively searching for new talent.
