I'm here, and I'm writing (with luck) some of the ending of a fantasy novel I've been struggling with since November.

Welcome aboard, David!

A few housekeeping announcements for all our racers tonight:

Remember to Refresh or Reload your screens to see the latest comments, and please "Add Reply" to join in the writing race (not "Add topic").

Check the time for the start of the official race: www.timeanddate.com

The goal: As many words as you can write in one hour from 8-9pm AEST.
And of course, to have fun!!

So go and make yourselves a cuppa, open your word documents, and get ready to race!...

Uh oh...I'm writing in Notepad; does that disqualify me??

At least I haven't scared EVERYONE else off.

Good luck David!

I'm not really aiming for word count tonight (since I kind of went over the mark a long time ago...sigh). But I'm desperate to write the next scene and get two of my characters on the road ... I need some critical info to be exchanged as well as a run in with a third major character. If I can do all this with a sense of foreshadowing I'll be happy, otherwise I'll settle for just getting the first draft of the scene down on paper as it were.
:)
Cheers,
Fiona

.... Notepad can be substituted for Word... as long as wine can be substituted for a cuppa!

Okay, notepads welcome, word counts unimportant. Let's just write and have fun.

I'm developing a new plot strand in my novel which means I have to go back and add in new sections to three different scenes. If i do two of them tonight i'll be happy. Good luck all, it's nice to know you're out there writing too!

BTW, Kim Wilkins, our celebrity guest racer from last week, says she is editing the MS so far, and thanks for last week - she might be up for some more racing in the next few weeks.

Okay 9pm and I'm done. About 700 words, and I'm really pleased - I've managed to insert a whole new plot device which opens up room for more interesting things ahead...

Meg, that's awful, sorry to hear that. Except for the soldiering on part, that's good, obviously. I managed maybe half of the big scene I think, 1077 words. Thanks heaps for the added impetus!

Favourite bit from tonight:
'Amid the ullulation of the lizard-demons, General Shudash strode down the squelching mountain of corpses, his ram-head held up and his giant hooves cutting open the bodies of the sacrifices with every step.'

So it's a bit icky and needs work...but it's got the voice I'm looking for.

David, that's awesome! Great word count, fantastic words - love 'the squelching mountain of corpses' eww!
My fave bit from tonight:
'Alix didn’t move a muscle. Her stillness spoke volumes. As far as Coroners was concerned, Royce was just another regular dead guy.'

What would fiction be without corpses? Doesn't bear thinking about really. Nice work!

Hi!

I managed 1031 (even though technically not counting!....
I'm not sure if I really got anywhere. Whenever these two get together they just talk and talk... they tend to get off topic. it's very very frustrating!

Sorry you lost your work Meg! that'd be frustrating too!

Well done Fiona, good to hear you are accumulating dead plot devices, I mean people.

I'll be here next week if it's on, all other things being equal. Hope to see you both then.

Ha Fiona I love it that your characters are so alive to you that they keep going off and doing whatever the heck they want! But I understand your frustration - wanting to get to a certain point, and finding yourself landing somewhere else instead...

Nice work tonight everyone. Hopefully see you next week. Special guest writer Belinda Jeffrey!
