Welcome, Racers!

Join us for some great conversation and dedicated writing time at our first Writing Race of Season 2, 2011.

Log in early on Tuesday 16 August (around 7.45pm EST for an 8pm start) so we can get to know you. Let us know what you'll be working on and what you hope to achieve during the race.

I've been busy inviting some great guest authors to join us at here at the Writing Races - so don't forget to look out for upcoming guests in August and September!

If you're new here, here's a brief rundown on the Writing Races procedure:

- Work on your own document offline - writing, editing, or researching - whatever you like! (feel free to share your favourite paragraph or two with us after the Race)
- Please use the Quick Reply feature below, so that we all stay in the same thread
- Refresh your screen regularly to see new comments and keep an eye out for new pages as the conversation gets longer

I'm just trying to see if I am still able to access the writing race.

Hi Racers,

My name's Perry and I'm going to be moderating the Writing Races this season.

I'm a postgraduate student studying writing, editing and publishing and I'm acting as the AWM Intern for this semester. Tonight will be my first Writing Race and I'm really excited to be writing with you all.

In my spare time I'm a big fan of fantasy fiction of all kinds (I even dabble a bit myself). But tonight I'll be working on assignments.

Don't forget to introduce yourselves when you log in and let us know what you'll be working on tonight (so we can cheer you on).

Cheers, Perry

Hi Perry, welcome to moderating, and thanks. Hi Aimee, Paula, and Mindy.

I'm going to work on a short story I started a few weeks ago. I hope to get 1000 words down but would settle for just figuring out what it's supposed to be about...

Hi David,

Thanks for the welcome. What genre is your story? It sounds like you'll be writing like crazy 1000 words- wow.

I think my story is urban fantasy...magic-book-turns-out-to-be-a-dimensional-door kind of thing. And 1000 words is good for me, but there are some who turn up here and whip out 1800 or 2000 regularly. Boggles the mind!

That sounds really great. Do you mind telling us a bit about it? Are you doing lots of research?

Wow David- that sounds great. just the kind of thing I love to read. I'm hard pressed to get down a couple of hundred words so 1000 sounds huge to me.

I have a half finished YA novel set in Scotland and find it difficult to finish as I've never been to scotland, LOL
So I decided to write a story about the local colonisation in 1820's and am having heaps of fun researching, but now I need to get some words down
