i only started this because this evenings guest in the race has a facebook page, now i have a personal page but here's some hints and tips on why i decided not to use my personal page as my writer page.

1. you want to make the page 'like' able and not 'friend' able. this means that when people click to link to you their updates won't automatically show up on your page. The best way to do this is go to the facebook sign in page and right down the bottom is a link to 'create page for business/celebrity/public figure'

2. you want to be able to write notes to your friends without every tom-dick and harry seeing that your planning a holiday or walking in the park. this protects your identity.

3. if you make your business page and personal page one in the same you will find many privacy concious fans will ignore you because i/they don't want their notes about their up and comming holiday/wedding etc splashed all over your page where people they don't know can read it.

so in short, be privacy and stalker concious.

ok so you've made your public figure/business page, now just follow the promts and add photo's and notes etc about yourself as a writer. You can invite your existing friends etc and add comments about your new book release or the query you're waiting on etc.

increasing traffic can be tricky but some key notes include:

be knowledgible, don't just dribble crap add notes about things that are interesting. I hate some of the publishers facebook pages, i don't want to know that so and so just sold their umpteenth copy of such and such, i want to know that they curently have so and so's query and it's good/bad/example, they just got a new editor - i want to know that, they average acceptance of 17 out of 200 submissions, that's gold!

You don't need to post daily but be consistant

running comps is great but not too many

let us into your world, that's what we really want.

and have fun with it!

Does this help with marketing - possibly but i haven't sold a book yet so please others chime in with your thoughts/experiences here....

Mostly i ramble, but you can join me...
