    • Somerset National Novella Writing Competition for School Age Writers
      The Competition is open to all current Australian secondary school students and is for a novella of between 10,000 and 20,000 words. The winner will be announced at the Somerset Celebration of Literature Festival held in March. Check website or contact organisers to confirm closing date.
    • One Book Many Brisbanes
      Brisbane City Council is seeking the freshest, most interesting and best written stories of Brisbane to showcase our city's literary talent. Entries can be any genre, they just need to be set in Brisbane. Visit website or phone for competition guidelines.
    • Miles Franklin Literary Award
      The Award is for a published novel that presents Australian life in any of its phases. Biographies, collections of short stories and books for children are not eligible. The winner is announced in May/June. The novel must be published in the year preceding the Award. If no novel is considered worthy, a play may be considered. Visit website or contact organisers to confirm closing date.
    • Hal Porter Short Story Competition
      Manuscripts must be original works, in English, and must not have been previously accepted for publication in Australia. Entries must not exceed 2,500 words. Do not submit entries by email please. Results are available by including a SSAE with entry. Please check website to confirm competition dates and details or email competition organiser.
    • FAW (WA) Tom Collins Poetry Prize
      The Tom Collins Poetry Prize is an annual open competition, held since the 1970s, and attracts entries from all over Australia. Maximum three entries per person.
